LINDSIDE – Fresh off a win over Meadow Bridge on Tuesday night, Greenbrier West looked to make their mark against another rival school Wednesday at James Monroe. The Lady Cavaliers entered the game with a misleading 3-3 record. Preslee Treadway, West’s leading scorer, had not played in a pair of the losses due to medical issues. With Treadway on the floor, Greenbrier West head coach Mark Agee knew his squad would have a better chance against a Lady Maverick team that sported a 7-2 record and seven straight wins.

Treadway and Maddie Fields carried the scoring load for West in the first quarter. Fields knocked down a pair of field goals while Treadway had a bucket and two free throws. Six Mavericks got in the scoring column led by Aleigha Hill with four points. James Monroe took an early 13-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Scoring was at a premium in the second quarter as Greenbrier West was woefully cold from the floor. Treadway and Fields each collected a basket with Brilee Redden adding the other Cavalier score. Five Mavericks tallied a second quarter score with Ava Dunlap draining the only three that James Monroe would hit all night. Greenbrier West trailed 23-14 at the half.

Treadway and Maverick sophomore Maggie Boroski battled for the scoring lead in the third quarter. Boroski had twelve points from the floor and went 4-4 from the foul line for a sixteen-point frame. Treadway kept pace with eleven points, hitting four field goals and knocking down two free throws. Lacey Critchley drained a three for the Lady Cavaliers, but Boroski got a little more help from her teammate Mya Dunlap. Dunlap had a nine-point effort with three buckets and 3-3 from the foul line. James Monroe led 48-28 at the end of three quarters.

Treadway and Fields did their best to fight back in the fourth quarter. Treadway contributed 14 points, hitting two baskets from the floor and knocking down eight free throws. Fields added seven points in the rally attempt, scoring a three-pointer, a field goal, and going 2-2 from the foul line. Despite the 21-point quarter, the Lady Mavericks held West at bay with an 11-point close out, sealing a 59-47 win.

Treadway led all scorers with 29 points, her season-high and fourth 20-point scoring effort in six games. Treadway is now third on the Greenbrier West girls all-time scoring leaderboard. Boroski led James Monroe with 22 points.

Greenbrier West (3-4) travels to River View Friday night at 7:30. The Lady Cavaliers defeated the Raiders 60-50 in the Winter Classic at Summersville on December 30. River View eliminated the Lady Cavaliers in the Region III Co-final last February. James Monroe takes their eight-game winning streak on the road to Westside Friday night.

GW – 8 6 14 19 – 47

JM – 13 10 25 11 – 58

Scoring – (GW) Treadway 29, M Fields 13, Critchley 3, Redden 2.

(JM) Boroski 22, M. Dunlap 16, A. Dunlap 5, A. Hill 4, Jackson 4, T. Hill 3, Long 3, Bradley 2.
