Whether he’s portraying the historic Pat Garrett in MGM+’s popular series “Billy the Kid”, starring in the 2024 critically acclaimed horror film “Bone Lake,” or as a struggling musician in the romantic feature “Forever my Girl,” actor Alex Roe has impressed many in Hollywood with his charm and versatility. Now, the rising UK-born star is taking on his most emotionally challenging and brave role to date in award-winning Appalachian director Eddie Mensore’s Kentucky-set opioid addiction drama “Hazard.”
Alongside the formidable Sosie Bacon, the daughter of Kevin Bacon & Kyra Sedgwick, and star of box office smash hit “Smile” and seen in HBO’s “Mare of Easttown,” Mr. Roe gives a brave, moving performance as Will, a reluctant drug dealer, fights to shield his family from the same devastating addiction that has ravaged their community. Despite his efforts, every choice threatens to pull him and his loved ones deeper into chaos. “Hazard” is a powerful portrayal of resilience and sacrifice, as Will must decide whether to succumb to the addiction he despises or rise above it to save his family.
Alex Roe’s role feels authentically lived-in, as he immersed himself in the community, ensuring a believable character that makes one wonder if he was born and raised in Kentucky, where “Hazard” is set. Mr. Roe, himself being British, makes the performance that much more astonishing.
Rounding out the cast is the multi-talented Dave Davis (The Vigil, Renfield) and veteran character Steven Ogg (The Walking Dead, Snowpiercer), with the film’s mood brilliantly elevated songs featuring popular Americana artists like Arlo McKinley, John R. Miller, Nicholas Jamerson, Ben Sollee, and Jonathan Glen Wood.
The film will begin its theatrical release on January 10, 2025, with screenings in over two dozen theaters across Appalachia. On January 17, the release will expand throughout the region, followed by openings in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Columbus and more. Actors Alex Roe, Dave Davis, and director Eddie Mensore will host a series of event screenings throughout the opening week run throughout West Virginia and Kentucky.
The release of the film soundtrack featuring select artists is now available online via sonaBLAST! Records.
