After almost a year of pandemic restrictions and students not being able to be in the classroom, some level of normalcy is returning.
After West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice announced that schools could return to in-person instruction, there was some debate as to the best way to accomplish that.
Eventually, the West Virginia Department of Education made the decision that all pre-k through 8th-grade students would return to school five days per week regardless of the county’s color on the DHHR County Alert System Map.
For the remaining upper grades, the return to school would be five days per week with the exception of the county being red on the alert system map.
White Sulphur Springs Elementary School has now made the transition back to five days per week for all non-remote students.
The new principal for WSS Elementary, Tina Campbell, released a statement on the school’s website welcoming students to the 2020-2021 school year.
The statement said, “Dear Falcon Family, Hello and welcome to the 2020-2021 school year. All the students and parents of our Falcon family have been greatly missed. We are eager to return to learning at White Sulphur Springs Elementary School. My Name is Tina Campbell and I am the new principal at White Sulphur Springs Elementary School. As a former elementary teacher, Instructional Coach and secondary Assistant Principal, I have a passion for students and strive to provide a safe and the best learning environment for all. I have been working hard to get the building ready for all students and staff to return for the 2020-2021 school year. Whether students are learning in-person or remotely, I am looking forward to getting to know each student and their family.”
Campbell went on to say that if anyone had any questions, they should not hesitate to reach out to her at the school by calling 304-536-2244. She can also be reached via email at tmcampbell@k12.wv.us.
White Sulphur Springs Elementary is planning to have spring break beginning on Friday, April 2, and continuing through Tuesday, April 6. Students will return to school on Wednesday, April 7.
If any West Virginia educator is interested in submitting video lessons to aid with remote learning in the state, there is a submission guide available on the West Virginia Department of Education website www.wvde.us/covid19/news/. There is also a form to allow teachers to submit their stories of stepping up during the COVID-19 pandemic.
