WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS W.Va. (WVDN) — West Virginia Junior College (WVJC) attended the Leadership West Virginia Health Care session at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, West Virginia, on Oct. 24.
Leadership West Virginia is a seven-month training program that brings together leaders from around the state, providing unparalleled educational and leadership experiences in varying industries important to West Virginia. This month’s sessions focused on West Virginia’s healthcare system. WVJC attended to discuss the critical workforce gaps currently facing West Virginia healthcare facilities and demonstrate how the institution addresses these challenges and improves the quality of care through its innovative educational delivery model.
WVJC CEO and 2014 Leadership West Virginia graduate, Chad Callen, was one of the WVJC presenters and shared his thoughts on Leadership West Virginia. “Having graduated from the Leadership West Virginia program, I understand firsthand the immense value it brings to the individual, their organization, and the state of West Virginia. Nearly a decade later, I am thrilled to give back to a program that has profoundly impacted my personal growth and leadership development.” Callen went on to say, “I’m excited to share our story and provide participants with an immersive experience that demonstrates how we are helping to fill the workforce gaps in West Virginia’s healthcare system through innovative solutions.”
Joining Callen for the showcase were two of WVJC’s three state-of-the-art Mobile Nursing Labs (MNLs)—Mary Virginia and Florence—and a complement of WVJC simulation technicians. This presented a unique opportunity for attendees to participate in an anaphylactic shock simulation on high-fidelity mannequins.
WVJC Director of Simulation Education, Brian Harris, reflected on the impact of mobile simulation for WVJC students, “The Mobile Nursing Lab provides a unique opportunity to bring training to where the student needs it,” he said. “It opens new doors for students in rural areas of West Virginia that might not have access to training otherwise.”
Potential students interested in enrolling in the WVJC School of Nursing’s next cohort in April 2025 are encouraged to visit wvjc.edu for more information about WVJC’s programs and Mobile Nursing Labs.
