James Larry McClung, 79, of White Sulphur Springs, WV, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2020, in Florida.
He was born on April 12, 1940, in Greenbrier County, WV.
Larry was the son of the late James and Myrtle McClung (Childers), and was preceded in death by two of his three sisters, Margaret and Susan; and is survived by his youngest sister, Lynne McClung, now Tuckwiller.
He graduated from White Sulphur Springs High School and WVU Tech, and was commissioned as a Second Lt in the U.S. Marine Corps. Larry married his high school sweetheart, Linda Mae Wright, and they remained married until she passed in 2011.
As a Marine, Larry served two tours in Vietnam and retired as Colonel James L. McClung, after 30 well-traveled years in the Marines.
Larry is survived by his sons, Larry Shannon and Dane, and their wives, Deanne and Dawn; his grandchildren, Ian, Tyler, Logan, and Briana; his step-grandson, Michael; many nephews, nieces, grand-nephews, and grandnieces; great-granddaughter, Cadence; cousins; and other extended family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, at 11 a.m. at the Clifton Presbyterian Church in Maxwelton, WV, with Pastor Ron Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
