Ruth “Norene” Walthall Pence, age 91, of Alderson, WV, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2020, at the Peyton Hospice House in Fairlea, WV, following a long illness.
Born on November 27, 1928, in Fort Spring, WV, she was the daughter of Masil Glenn Walthall and Erma Laura McCallister Walthall.
Mrs. Pence formerly worked for Coleman Pharmacies in Alderson and Lewisburg, WV. She was a member of the Broad Run Baptist Church in Wolf Creek, WV, where she served as an adult Sunday school teacher for several years. Mrs. Pence was an avid gardener, enjoyed studying family genealogy and American history, and loved spending time with family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Harold Ovil Pence; and three sisters, Doris Lilly, Anna Smith, and Lois Roles.
Survivors include one son, Boyd Pence (Becky) of Alderson; one daughter, Rita Ritacco (Gerry) of Charlotte Court House, VA; one sister, Faye Hancock of Union, WV; three grandchildren, Kristy Sager of Fredericksburg, VA, Kenneth Pence of Alderson, and Nick Ritacco (Jocelyn) of Chardon, OH; six great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and special friends, Louise Utterback and Gail Ball.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Monday, February 24, 2020, at the Groves-Mann Funeral Home in Union, with the Rev. Bob Ratliff and the Rev. Gary Baker officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Greenbrier Memorial Cemetery in Alderson.
Family and friends will serve as Pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Broad Run Baptist Church in Wolf Creek, or Peyton Hospice House, 1265 Maplewood Ave. Lewisburg, WV 24901.
