WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS W.Va. (WVDN) – The white Sulphur Springs city council met in regular session on Oct. 15.

Some basic items were gotten out of the way such as the approval of revenues and expenses being approved.

The maintenance department has been making sure the storm drains are cleared. The storm drain project will reportedly eliminate a lot of the problem. The Route 60 sewer project is ongoing and is in the process of getting a third crew so they can switch out and always have two teams on so the project can close on time.

Ruth Miller spoke to the Council about an ongoing problem with overflow from a draining problem on East Ingleside Avenue. She said that something needs to be done now to alleviate it before more damage is done to her property and neighbors’ property. She went on to explain it can’t wait for the completion of the storm drain project. Miller told the council she doesn’t remember the last time she saw maintenance being done in this area other than weed eating. She said she remembered years ago that the ditch line used to be dug out but now it’s up level with her yard.

She said she is asking the Council to look into digging it out to stop the overflow until the grant money for the drain project goes through. Miller went on to say that when it rains, Ingleside Drive becomes a lake. She feels that new culverts draining down the nonexistent ditch cause big problems for residents. She reports that she once saw a waterfall coming off Betty Ford’s house due to a draining problem. Miller feels like old tires are also causing big problems. She went on to tell councilmembers how once a tire was heard bouncing off the house.

Finally, Miller explained that she once had a family member come to talk to the Council only to be told they were not in. When the family member walked out the door, they allegedly said they saw the council member crossing the street. Miller stated that wasn’t transparency nor was it the values the council said they outlined in administration.

Another citizen asked the Council to remove four parking spaces in front of 138 Caldwell Drive due to the current parking situation making it hard for emergency services vehicles to get by, as well as causing vehicles to have to get on the sidewalk to park. The citizen explained to the Council how, when the schoolhouse had a delivery, it created a problem for everyone, not only his Airbnb customers.  After discussion, a motion was passed to remove the four parking spaces.

The Council discussed the need to purchase more speed limit signs seeing as there are only two in the Memorial Street area. It was discussed if the speed limit needs to be reduced. A total of four signs were decided to be needed. A motion was passed to obtain the speed limit signs.

Several other items were discussed during the meeting.
