Charles Town, W.Va. (WVDN) – WV Rivers Coalition, in partnership with the Potomac Valley Audubon Society and the American Conservation Film Festival, is hosting a special outdoor screening of the documentary “Keepers of the Land” as part of the Ripple Effects Film Series. The event will take place on Friday, October 11, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Cool Spring Preserve in Charles Town, WV.
This free event will highlight the ongoing PFAS contamination crisis in West Virginia’s water systems and provide a platform for community members to learn more about legislative progress, including the PFAS Protection Act and how they can get involved in upcoming development of site-specific action plans to safeguard their drinking water.
“We’re excited to collaborate with the Potomac Valley Audubon Society and the American Conservation Film Festival to raise awareness about PFAS contamination,” said Maria Russo, Clean Water Campaign Coordinator at WV Rivers Coalition. “The Ripple Effects Film Series is a chance for people to come together, learn from these powerful stories, and take steps toward creating a healthier, safer future for our communities.”
“Keepers of the Land” tells the inspiring story of the Kitasoo Xai’xais Nation in British Columbia’s Great Bear Rainforest. As they reclaim their stewardship role over their traditional lands, the film underscores the importance of protecting natural resources for future generations.

It’s about fostering connection, learning from other communities, and taking meaningful action here in West Virginia.
