Alfred Wayne Paxton, 79, of Ogle Creek Rd., went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 10, 2019.
Mr. Paxton was born on May 2, 1940, in Alleghany County, VA, and was a son of Aubrey Alfred and Carrie Virginia Kay Paxton.
He retired from MeadWestvaco in 2004 as an insulator. He was a veteran of the Korean war with the U.S. Army and was Life Member and Past Commander of the Curtis A. Smith Post #1033, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was an active member and Elder of the Johnson Creek Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Covington Lodge #171, AF & AM, where he served as Tiler. He was a member and Chaplin of Local 675 Paperworkers Union and had been a part-time employee of Arritt Funeral Home for many years. Alfred was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians baseball team and enjoyed the PBR, attending many bull riding events through the years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Alberta Johnson; two brothers, Daniel Lewis Paxton and Roger Allen Paxton; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert Lee and Genevieve Marie Reed Miller.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Ruby Diane Miller Paxton of Covington; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael Wayne and Rhonda Paxton; his daughter, Rebecca Diane Paxton; two grandsons, Johnny Lee Meadows and Michael Logan Paxton; two great-grandsons, Michael Logan Paxton Jr. and Levi Wyatt Meadows; one great-granddaughter, Hannah Grace Paxton; one special nephew whom he raised, Eric Allen Paxton; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Johnny Marks; three sisters-in-law, Donna Marie Sams Council (Charlie), Dreama Mae Clinebell, and Debra Jane Rutherford (Gary); three brothers-in-law, RJ and Ruth Miller, Rusty and Brenda Miller, and Ricky and Jan Miller; several nieces and nephews; and his very special best friend, Lonnie McKinney.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2019, at 2 p.m. in the Johnson Creek Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Paul Burns officiating.
Interment will be made in the Johnson Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery with military rites conducted by Curtis A. Smith Post #1033.
Active pallbearers will be Jason Sams, Robert Miller, Lannie Clinebell, Nick Rutherford, Travis Miller, Bradley Paxton, and Allen Marks.
The family will receive their friends on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Arritt Funeral Home with Masonic rites conducted at 6 p.m. by Covington Lodge #171 AF & AM.
The family suggests that memorial contributions in Alfred’s name be made to the Johnson Creek Presbyterian Church, 4804 Johnson Creek Rd., Covington, VA 24426.
