LEWISBURG W.Va. (WVDN) – Carnegie Hall’s August/September Exhibits are underway with three galleries featuring the works of regional artists. The Old Stone Room Gallery features an exhibit by Jan Heath. The Old Stone Room is located on the ground floor of Carnegie Hall. The exhibit runs through the end of September.
Jan has been making prints for over 40 years, developing printmaking techniques through experimentation and innovation. Her prints are hand-pulled, signed and numbered.
Jan Heath grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland, and attended the University of Kentucky, University of Md., and Montgomery College, Takoma Park, Maryland.
In 1979, drawn by the natural beauty and friendly quality of the Berkeley Springs area, Jan left the Washington, DC area with her husband, painter Jonathan Heath, and their son, Damian, to build their home and studios. Working and living in rural Morgan County provides a continuing source of inspiration for Jan’s prints. In 1992, Jan and Jonathan opened the Heath Studio Gallery in Berkeley Springs.
Jan’s prints have received recognition in many regional, national and international exhibitions. Her work is shown in numerous galleries and shops in the mid-Atlantic region. In Berkeley Springs, her prints and Jonathan’s paintings and prints can be seen at the Heath Studio Gallery, Lot 12 Public House, and the Ice House Co-op Gallery.
She is a member of the Southern Highland Craft Guild and sells her work in three of their shops: Folk Art Center in Asheville, NC; Guildcrafts, on Tunnel Rd. in Asheville, NC; Moses Cone Manor on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Blowing Rock, NC.
Other galleries where her work can be found include Tamarack in Beckley, WV, Dickinson and Wait Craft Gallery, Shepherdstown, WV, RH Ballard Shop and Gallery, Washington, VA, Main Exhibit Gallery, Ligonier, PA, Taylor Books, Charleston, WV, and Appalachian Gallery, Morgantown, WV.
The exhibits are free and open to the public, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. For more information, please visit carnegiehallwv.org, call (304) 645-7917, or stop by the Hall at 611 Church Street, Lewisburg, WV.
