Contemplated Purchase
The contemplated purchase of the Sewell Valley Railroad which runs from Meadow Creek to Rainelle by the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway is being discussed in the Mountain State. The sale is pending an agreement between the two roads on the purchase price. The figures, it is understood, range between $3,000,000 and $5,000,000.
Last Revolutionary Pensioner
The records of the Pension Bureau show that Daniel F. Bakeman, who died at Freedom, NY, in 1869, at the age of 109 years, was the last soldier pensioner of the Revolutionary War, and Esther S. Damon, widow of Noah Damon, who died at Plymouth, Vermont, in 1906, at the age of 96 years, was the last name to be scratched from the Revolutionary pension rolls.
The Fair Midway
The midway at the fair this year is larger than ever before with the Bernardi Greater Shows furnishing the attractions. There are eleven shows and five riding devices spread out in a beautiful horse-shoe formation with the riding devices down the center.

New Stockyards
The Bluegrass Market will open at North Caldwell on December 1. It was organized by a number of Greenbrier farmers and businessmen several months ago, and since then they have been busy erecting an up-to-date market and sales buildings and pens.
Granted Charter
The Seneca Motor Company has been organized and granted a state charter to operate in the Fairlea community. Its principal office will be in Lewisburg with a show room and shop located in the building owned by W. B. Williams in Fairlea. The incorporators are listed as E. C. Dively, M. B. Williams and J. Wade Bell.
Peach Prospects
Elberta peach crop growers now harvesting their crop, faced the pleasant prospect of a heavy yield, a good demand and a steady market. The U. S. Department of Agriculture said bushel baskets were bringing $3 and up fob for two-inch and up stock. The report covered what is known as the Martinsburg-Crozet-Roanoke, VA section.

Manchin In County
A James Manchin, State Director of REAP. paid a personal visit to Greenbrier County for the purpose of making plans to bring his REAP crews into the area for a massive clean-up program. “My heart is always warmed when I come to the plush Greenbrier Valley and I want to assure the citizens that we stand on their side in the determination of making Greenbrier County shine in the sunshine of new hope, “ Manchin said.
Court, Bendix Meet For Bond Closing
Members of the Greenbrier County Court met in special session with representatives from the Bendix Corporation and representatives of the banks in the Greenbrier Valley area for the purpose of the final closing of Revenue Bonds for the new Bendix Corporation, being built on U. S. 219 north of Lewisburg.
Charles Lindbergh Dies
Charles A. Lindbergh, who was the idol of millions when he made the first solo flight across the Atlantic 47 years ago, died Monday and is buried in a tiny church yard on the island, of Maui far from the crowds he avoided most of his life.

Governor Pays Visit To Library
Governor Cecil H. Underwood (left) and his wife, Hovah (center) stopped by the White Sulphur Springs Public Library recently for an afternoon visit. Welcoming the special visitors were librarian Mary Jane Walkup and her assistant Kimberly Bierer (right). Walkup’s husband, Zivo, joined the group as they toured the main reading room, the computer area and the meeting room.
Hollowell Foundation Pledges $250,000 To GVT
Greenbrier Valley Theatre’s board of directors has announced a pledge from the Hollowell Foundation in the amount of $250,000. The pledge, payable over five years, is one of the largest grants awarded to GVT’s Raise The Roof Campaign.
Mountain View School On Schedule To Open In Monroe County
Final details related to the opening of Mountain View are all that remain for the $6.2 million facility to open August 26, according to Jim Hunter, clerk of the works, reporting to the Monroe County Board of Education.
