CHARLESTON- Players from Greenbrier East, Greenbrier West, and James Monroe came together as one on Saturday, June 15 and represented the local area in the North-South Football Classic in South Charleston as they suited up for the South Cardinals.
Greenbrier West’s Ethan Holliday took home the ‘Charlie Maynor Heart and Hustle’ award and East’s Aiden Cole won a lineman award.
The other participants in the game were James Monroe’s Jackson Phipps, Chaz Boggs, and Cooper Ridgeway.
As far as the action on the field, the South won an overtime thriller, 21-20 over the North Bears.
In OT, with the North trailing 20-13, they needed just one play from the 20-yard line to tie the game as Dylan Ours caught a 20-yard TD pass. Instead of kicking the extra point to send the contest into a second extra session, the Bears tried a run up the middle that the South defense stuffed at the goal line, and they celebrated their victory.
