Kenneth Lee “Bud” Simms, 95, of Fairlea, WV, passed away Saturday,
October 13, 2018, at Brier Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in
Ronceverte, WV.
Bud was born February 26, 1923, at Maxwelton, WV, to Charles Carroll and
Margaret Brown Simms.
Bud was owner/operator of Simms’ Esso in Ronceverte, from 1950 until
1960, when he sold it and then bought what is now Simms’ Exxon in
Lewisburg, WV. He was a member of the Fairlea Ruritan Club, Lewisburg
Rotary, and American Legion Post #200.
Bud was a WWII Navy Veteran, having served as a tail gunner off of a
Hellcat dive bomber and was awarded the Silver Star and Airman’s Medal,
among others. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church,
where he served on many committees and was a member of the Methodist Men.
Other than his parents, Bud was preceded in death by sisters, Catherine
Simms and Ella McClung; brothers, James, Bill, Clarence, Ray, Perry
“Snookie,” and Charlie Simms.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Della Lea Brandt Simms of
Fairlea; daughter, Sandy Tuckwiller of Lewisburg; sons, Kenny Simms and
wife, Donna, of The Villages, FL, Larry Simms of Miami, FL, George Simms
and wife, Diane, of Lewisburg; grandchildren, David Tuckwiller, Ross
Tuckwiller, Kelly Tuckwiller Collins, Amanda Simms, Andrew Simms, Lisa
Hagerty, Harry Simms, and June Simms; great-grandchildren, Lochlan
Hagerty, Tenner Hagerty, Ward Tuckwiller, Grace Tuckwiller, Josie
Tuckwiller, and Louise Collins.
Bud was a proud donor to the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
