Vona Paulette Winston, 75, of Lewisburg, WV, passed away Monday, July 16, 2018, at the Peyton Hospice House in Lewisburg, WV, from a terminal illness.
Born Easter Sunday, April 25, 1943, at Herndon, WV, she was the daughter of Jessie and Sarah Green Mills.
Vona worked most of her life as a licensed practical nurse at various healthcare facilities, including Greenbrier Valley Medical Center for 22 years and Greenbrier Manor for four years. She was a member of the Elizabeth Chapel United Methodist Church. She always enjoyed having Bible studies at her home and hosting the brothers’ and sisters’ family reunion every year. Vona will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Janie, Bo, Trula, and Marjorie; and one brother, Russell.
Survivors include her loving husband of 54 years, Jim Winston; son, William James Winston Jr. (Lora) of Lewisburg; grandson, Michael J. Winston of Lewisburg; brother, Jess Mills (Betty) of Columbus, OH; and two sisters, Betty England of Mullens, WV, and Peggy Mills of Fairlea, WV.
It was Vona’s wish to be cremated. A memorial service was held Sunday, July 22, 2018, at the Greenbrier Health Care Center with Iona Sarver officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations of sympathy be made to Greenbrier Health Care Center, Activity Department, 1115 Maplewood Avenue, Lewisburg, WV 24901.
