GREENBRIER COUNTY W.Va. (WVDN) – The Greenbrier Humane Society gave thanks to the community for their continued support and encouragement throughout the year, with a pet parade, discounted adoptions, live music, a chili cook-off and vendors galore. Merida, director of the shelter, was overjoyed at the turnout of the community for their event which was held at the facility this past Saturday. Decorations were hung, and pups donned their best costumes and looked happy to meet the public.
Local musicians Bryce George, Andrew Dean and Lillie King serenaded the party-goers. A beautiful bench was readied for pet portraits, for a $10 donation, by Shannie Snaps, LLC. Local artisans dotted the layout offering wares, baked goods and more for all to enjoy. One highlight was an 11-year-old entrepreneur named Leah Richmond who contorts handmade felts into chewy dog toys called “Ruff Rope.” She displayed her business plan alongside the colorful and well-crafted toys while her own dog, Titan, sat patiently by.
The artisans such as Pooch and Company, operated by Lisa Amaroso, create pet treats like her celebration cake for dogs. Sage and Lila Company, a partner of Communities of Healing, offered handmade candies, CBD lotions and tye-dyed T-shirts. The Biscuit Barkery offered handcrafted “woofles,” and there were “Howl-o-Ween” cookies beautifully decorated by loving hands. Prizes were awarded for the best pet costumes as the sun warmed the kind-hearted attendees and the unfortunate candy-filled bowls!
The food offered was a hearty pulled pork platter, homemade lemonade and a chili cookoff tasting with local celebrity judges. The air was filled with a feeling of gratitude for not only the precious animals but for the volunteers who work tirelessly each day, to better the lives of wayward souls. The continued support of the community is what propels the hope of every pet while programs like the “doggie day out” and fostering are constantly reaching forward to a day when no pet goes unloved or without a loving home.
