Ruth Louise Tuckwiller Sweet, 86, of Lewisburg, WV, died peacefully on January 13, 2018, at the Peyton Hospice House in Lewisburg, WV.
Ruth was born on March 9, 1931, to Ross H. and Margaret M. Tuckwiller, at home on the family farm, just west of Lewisburg.
She attended Central School, Lewisburg High School, West Virginia University, and the Medical College of Virginia, where she received her R.N. degree.
After she returned home, she worked in the Greenbrier Clinic, the Greenbrier Manor, and then as a Greenbrier County health nurse for 10 years. She retired as the nurse at Anthony Correctional Center after many years of service there. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church and served as treasurer for many years. She was a member of PEO, CEOS, Wednesday Bridge Club, and United Methodist Women.
Ruth could often be found active in her yard, enjoying her vegetables, flower gardens, and fruit trees, and in her kitchen, making her famous sourdough bread, which she shared with friends.
She and her husband, Bill, enjoyed playing golf or bridge together, and she also liked to knit; her knitwork was on exhibit almost every year at the State Fair of West Virginia.
Preceding her in death were her husband of 45 years, Bill; brother, John Tuckwiller; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Tuckwiller; and brother-in-law, Bill Simmons.
Survivors include her sister, Frances T. Simmons of Alderson, WV; brother, Sam Tuckwiller of Lewisburg; sister-in-law, Joan M. Tuckwiller of Lewisburg; and many nieces and nephews on both Sweet and Tuckwiller sides of the family.
The family extends a special appreciation to Marie Green for her failthful health care service.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 21, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church with the Rev. Emory Hanna officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Friends may visit the family on Saturday, January 20, from 6-8 p.m. at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home.
