Howard Franklin “Slim” Johnson, 85, of Crawley, WV, passed away January 3, 2018, at CAMC Memorial Hospital in Charleston, WV, after a short illness.
Slim was born July 17, 1932, in Trout, WV; he spoke fondly of his hometown. He was the youngest son of William and Vergie Johnson.
On July 26, 1958, Slim married his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Barbara “Bobbie” Loudermilk Johnson. Together they had two sons, Larry and wife, Lisa, of Hurricane, WV, and Craig and wife, Sherri, of Winchester, KY. They settled and raised their sons in a great neighborhood of West Belle, WV, where everyone called each other neighbor and everyone’s kids were like brothers and sisters. The family were members of Judson Baptist Church, where many lifelong friendships were made.
Slim worked for years as an off road tire salesman for BF Goodrich in Charleston. After retirement, Slim and Bobbie moved back to Greenbrier County, where they attended James Chapel Methodist Church. Slim loved residing on his hilltop and sitting on his back porch, and he never intended to leave. He will be laid to rest in Greenbrier County soil for all time.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Henry, Arleta, and Harold.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara “Bobbie” Loudermilk Johnson; sister, Loretta Judy and husband, Marshall, of Lindside, WV; and sons, Larry and wife, Lisa, and Craig and wife, Sherri. Also surviving are Slim’s grandchildren, Lara, Lauren, Blake, and Cole, whom he loved dearly.
His wife, sons, family, and friends are sad for their loss, but happy for Heaven’s gain. “Until we see him again, love you, Dad.”
