The Greenbrier River Watershed Association’s mission is to educate the public and future generations on the preservation and protection of the Greenbrier River.
Through a grant from the Mountain Resource Conservation Development, the group is hosting a rain barrel workshop at its watershed celebration event at Lost World Caverns on Saturday, April 22.
To sign up for the workshop and take home a free rain barrel and connector kit, go to www.greenbrier.org. The workshop begins at 3 p.m., and spaces are limited.
In addition to the workshop, at 5 p.m., five beautifully painted rain barrels will be auctioned via auctioneer Martha Hilton. Students from Rupert Elementary, Rainelle Elementary, Eastern Greenbrier Middle School and Western Greenbrier Middle School have been involved in the painting and decorating.
Board member Autumn Crowe will be visiting the schools to talk about rain barrel use for water conservation and pollution control. Three schools will keep a rain barrel for their own garden, and supporters may sponsor a plaque with their name imprinted which will also be auctioned to the highest bidder.
The entire watershed celebration event begins at 2 p.m., filled with music, food for purchase, free cave tours and lots of silent auction items. Visit the Greenbrier River Watershed Association’s Facebook page for updates and lists of sponsors at www.facebook.com/greenbrier.watershed.
