Forest G. “Suicide” Holt, 92, of Ronceverte, WV, passed away Friday, June 30, 2017, at Peyton Hospice House in Lewisburg, WV.
A son of the late Henry and Rosie Holt, Suicide was born February 19, 1925, in Ronceverte.
He was a retired maintenance worker for the Greenbrier County Board of Education, an active member of Ronceverte Presbyterian Church and a volunteer fireman with Ronceverte Volunteer Fire Department for many years. Mr. Holt was also a World War II Navy veteran.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betsy “Betty” Armstrong Holt, on May 8, 2017; a daughter, Linda VanMetre; and 11 brothers and sisters.
He is survived by a son-in-law, Jim (Cathy) VanMetre of Lewisburg; two granddaughters, Karen (John) Arbuckle of Lewisburg and Judy (Timothy) Poore of Richmond, VA; three great-grandchildren, Jaelynn Parks and her boyfriend, Evan Canterbury, Tori Parks and Samuel Poore; one step-great-grandchild, Cody Arbuckle; a sister, Doretha Halsey of Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, July 6, 2017, at 1 PM at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg, with Pastor Stephen Baldwin officiating. Private interment will follow at Greenbrier Memorial Gardens in Lewisburg.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM on Wednesday, July 5, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy may be made to Ronceverte Presbyterian Church at 261 Locust Street, Ronceverte, WV 24970.
