PRINCETON, W.Va. (WVDN) – It is still very early in the season, but after just two games, it appears that the Greenbrier East Spartans baseball team’s offense is legit.
East beat Princeton 16-5 behind a huge day at the plate from Clayton Morgan, as the Spartans racked up 13 hits and scored at least two runs in every single inning.
East played a back-and-forth contest for the first three innings as the Tigers never let them pull away, but in the top of the fourth that finally changed. With the Spartans ahead 6-5, Henry Goodwin laid down a perfect bunt that scored Morgan, then Ian Cline doubled to left field that brought home Goodwin and Zion Detko.
After that, the lead extended to 9-5 and East cruised the rest of the way and sent Princeton home in disappointment.
Morgan went 3-3 with three runs scored and four RBI’s. Gavin Bennett, Gabe Patton and Ian a Cline all drove in two runs apiece. Ashton Cochran went 2-5 and scored three runs, and Detko had two hits, scored two runs and drove in another.
