FAIRLEA, WV- The Greenbrier East Lady Spartans jumped out to a huge 11-0 lead in the bottom half of the first inning against Shady Spring on Monday, March 20 and obviously never looked back as they cruised to an easy 16-0 victory on what was a sunny, yet windy and cold evening.
The momentum started when Taylor Boswell blooped a single to center that scored Alanis McClary and Haley Byars, who was pinch running for pitcher, Josi Ervin. Between hits and walks, the runs seemed to never stop before they finally did when East had 11 of them.
With Ervin on the mound, Shady never had a chance. The Concord commit pitched just two innings but struck out 5 and did not allow a hit. The game was called after three innings.
Boswell led the Spartans (1-1)) with four RBI’s on a 2-3 day at the plate. Lindsey Black went 3-3 and scored theee runs. Hailey Ervin and Jenna Groves each drove in two runs. Lilly Carola and Olivia Plybon each had a hit as well.
Carola pitched the final inning for the Spartans and looked good with two strikeouts.
