Fontaina Lou Powell, 64, died unexpectedly at home on Thursday, June 15, 2017.
The daughter of Leonard and Phyllis Curry, she was born in Charleston, WV, on February 16, 1953.
She grew up in East Bank and Winfield, WV, and graduated from East Bank High School and Marshall University. Fontaina was happily married to Bob Powell since 2011, and they resided in Lewisburg, WV.
Fontaina worked as a paralegal with various firms in Charleston until she was disabled in a work-related, auto accident that forever changed the trajectory of her life. She loved to participate and help the communities that she lived in. Fontaina volunteered her time with Branches Domestic Violence Shelter, American Red Cross, Beckley VA Hospital with long-term care veterans, The Greenbrier resort for various events, and the Lewisburg Newcomers & Old Friends Club.
Fontaina is survived by her loving husband, Bob Powell; her beloved daughter, Tracy, son-in-law, Jim Jones, and granddaughter, Teagan, of Hurricane, WV; her brother, Jeff Curry and wife, Debbie; sister, Renee Vickers and husband, Monty; uncle, Kenneth Kirkpatrick and wife, Lois; aunt Yolanda Gance and husband, Charlie; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Fontaina’s husband, Bob, has a son, David Powell, daughter-in-law, Dr. Jessica Tate, grandson, Garrett, and granddaughter, Harper, of Winston-Salem, NC; and a daughter, Emily Powell and her partner, Lamont Cunningham, of Sterling, VA.
Fontaina was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jim and Thelma Kirkpatrick; and parents, Leonard and Phyllis Curry.
Fontaina was known for her compassion, kindness, and laughter, and was always ready to have a great time with family and friends. Her granddaughter, Teagan, was the light of her life and will miss her “Mimi” deeply.
Fontaina never liked people making too much of a fuss about her, and so per her request, there will be no funeral or memorial services.
