Dorothy Ruth Owens passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, following an extended illness.
Born June 8, 1938, in Oak Hill, WV, she was the daughter of John Butler and Ruby Dooley.
She married Bill Owens on her 18th birthday. Dorothy was a member of the Pineville Women’s Club, Beckley Art Group, and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Dorothy was an animal lover, an accomplished cook, and a talented artist.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Bill Owens; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Pam Owens; daughter and son-in-law, Terri and David West; son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Tina Owens; she was loved by her six grandchildren, Bill Owens and Tyler Owens, Lara Byrd and David West, and Rhianna Hoke Jobe and Madison Owens; three great-grandchildren; her brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Lonnie Butler; and three sisters, Karen Dooley Lefevers, Sherry Dooley, and Betty Dooley Castleman.
She will be greatly missed by her family and her large circle of friends. Her special friends include Beverly Triplett of Charleston, WV; Gloria Loud of Titusville, FL; dear friend and neighbor, Christine Chapman; and Alice and Bud LaFollette of Sarasota, FL.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Carol Butler Perdue, and her brother, Billy Dooley.
A celebration of life for Dorothy will be held Saturday, June 10, 2017, at 1 PM at Shaw-Mi-Del-Eca Village in Caldwell, WV.
