SMOTHERS
Ida Laura Smothers, 95, of Ronceverte, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Stonerise of Lewisburg.
Born February 23, 1927, at Williamson, WV, she was a daughter of the late Mikel Bright McMillion and Madeline Dillion McMillion.
She was a member of Ronceverte Presbyterian Church, was a member of the local breast cancer support group, and was a 20+ year volunteer at Shenandoah Manor, later The Brier.
She and her husband, Otis, owned and operated Smothers Grocery in Ronceverte for many years.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Alice McCutcheon; and a brother, Lawrence McMillion.
Surviving are sons, Alan Smothers of Ronceverte and Gary Smothers of Tuscaloosa, AL; grandchildren, Mandy Hughes of Huntsville, AL, Michael Smothers of Dunn, NC, Laura Snyder of Shady Springs, WV; step-grandson, Lucas Jones of IL; great-grandchildren, Sarah Hughes of Washington, DC, Hannah Hughes of Tuscaloosa, AL, Chloe and Joshua Smothers, both of Dunn, NC; sisters, Edith Stamm of Albuquerque, NM, Doris Young of Pensacola, FL, Grace Flowers of Clinton, MD; brothers, Jr. McMillion of Clifton Forge, VA, James McMillion of Salem, AL, and Harold McMillion of Pickaway, WV.
There will be a graveside service at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at Riverview Cemetery in Ronceverte with Pastor Stephen Baldwin officiating.
