Murl “Sonny” Rader, 85, of Smoot, WV, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2016, at the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Fairlea, WV, following a short illness.
Born May 22, 1931, at Petersburg, WV, he was the son of Morgan Morgan Rader and Gertrude Keplinger Rader.
Sonny attended Greenbrier Military School in Lewisburg, WV, and went into the U.S. Navy in 1951. He retired after 20 years of service. He also retired after 25 years as the assistant manager of the Greenbrier Valley Airport. Sonny’s favorite hobbies were farming and being a part of the Smoot Ruritans.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Roy E. Rader and Paul E. Rhodes; sister, Wanda Ohenshain; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gene and Agnes Knight.
Those left to cherish Sonny’s memory are his wife, Sue Knight Rader; son, James E. Rader and wife, Debi, of North Carolina; daughter, Vicky S. Spangler and husband, David, of Texas; grandchildren, Chris Cooper and wife, Brittany, and Jason W. Cooper; great-grandchildren, Bryson and Kylie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
No services are planned at this time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Greenbrier Humane Society, 115 Holliday Lane, Lewisburg, WV 24901.
