Wilma Jean Hefner Stump, 90, peacefully passed away Sunday, June 26, 2016, in Roanoke, VA.
From her birth in Neola, WV, on July 31, 1925, daughter of Arthur and Flora Wade Hefner, everyone who crossed paths with her experienced laughs, thoughtfulness, and excellent conversation.
Wilma grew up in White Sulphur Springs, WV, and on June 10, 1950, married James Hilliard Stump. Together they had two sons, John Gregg and James Arthur Stump. In 1964, they relocated to Roanoke, where they would reside for the remainder of their 52 years of marriage. Wilma and her husband were devoted members of Northminster Presbyterian Church in Roanoke. She maintained an active membership in the Order of the Eastern Star, maintaining a 50-year plus membership in Beckley, WV, and later in Fincastle, VA, with Botetourt No. 135. She was also a loyal member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars at Post 1841.
“Meemaw,” as her family and close friends knew her, was always committed to the care of her loved ones near and far. Her incredible cooking skills and compassionate conversation will be forever cherished.
She is survived by two sisters, Nellie Doan (Lee) and Janie Boggs (Emmett); two sons, Gregg Stump (Pam) and Art Stump (Pam); five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A special thanks is extended to the compassionate staff at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and the Carrington Place at Botetourt for all their care and assistance.
While Wilma was an avid gardener, always maintaining immaculate roses, she believed in helping others.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2016, from 12-2 PM at Northminster Presbyterian Church.
Funeral services will begin at 2 PM at the church with the Rev. Russ Merritt officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Northminster Presbyterian Church, 3911 Greenland Avenue, NW, Roanoke, VA 24012.
