Mrs. Charles “Shirley” Taylor, 78, of Asbury, WV, went home to be with her Lord and her honey, Charlie, on Monday, March 21, 2016, at Peyton Hospice House in Fairlea, WV, surrounded by her loved ones.
Shirley was born August 4, 1937, at Jumping Branch, WV, the daughter of Lawrence and Hattie Cole.
She has anxiously awaited this reunion in heaven since the passing of her beloved husband of 57 years, Pastor Charles C. Taylor Jr. He was the love of her life.
During her life, Shirley served her family as a gracious homemaker, amazing cook, and loving mother. Like her husband, “Preacher Charlie,” Shirley faithfully served her Lord in ministry, her church family, and many others in the community who called her “Nana” or “Miss Shirley.” The love of Christ and her big heart drew people to her.
Thus, she adopted many into the family and claimed them as her own – too many to list.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Jim Cole, John Cole, Bert Cole, and Janice Patterson.
Those who are left to carry on their parents’ legacy are their five children, Becky Hogan, Ralph Taylor and wife, Becky, Julie Totten and husband, Tim, Lori Wickline and husband, Doug, and Susie Tomlinson and husband, John; grandchildren, Joshua Hogan, Jessica McCoy and Dylan, Leah Price, Meghan Pettet and Paul, Elizabeth McDowell and Jon, Joseph Wickline and Hannah, Levi Massey, and Taylor and Kate Tomlinson; great-grandchildren, Landon and Savannah Price, Violet and Cora Pettet, and Jude Henry McDowell; and three siblings, Arliss Jones, Harry Cole, and Tony Cole.
The family will have a private graveside service at 10 AM on Thursday, March 24, 2016, at Rosewood Cemetery in Lewisburg, WV.
A celebration of life service will be held at First Baptist Church of Fairlea on Thursday at 6 PM. Church doors will open at 5 PM as the family will welcome guests. Pastor Dallas Smith, evangelist Neal Hatfield, and Pastor Mike Tincher will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Peyton Hospice House, 1265 Maplewood Avenue, Lewisburg, WV 24901, or Mitsy’s Wings, P.O. Box 1187, Lewisburg, WV 24901, www.mitsywings.org.
The family sincerely thanks all of the staff at the Peyton Hospice House. The hospitality and concern extended to each family member was above and beyond, and our Mom received genuine care and comfort during her last days there. And even during that time, she adopted yet a few more into the family.
McCraw Funeral Home in Lewisburg is in charge of arrangements.
