Dorothy Mae “Dot” Smith, 91, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2016.
Mrs. Smith was born in Telfair County, GA, on December 23, 1924, the daughter of Walter Thomas Smith and Lucy Scarborough Smith.
She resided in Riverdale, GA, for over 50 years and was a member of the Riverdale First Baptist Church. Dot resided in Alderson, WV, for the past 10 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Curtis Smith; grandson, Russell Smith; brothers, Eugene Smith, Oscar Smith, Preston Smith, and Rollo Smith; and sisters, Rubye Braswell and Mary Alice Tart.
Dot is survived by her children, Nelson Smith (Carla) of Palmetto, FL, Denny Smith (Judy) of Lilburn, GA, Denise Lyle (Wendell) of Eatonton, GA, and Sandra Ellard (Ray) of Alderson; honorary daughter, Beverly Barwick of Jonesboro, GA; brother, Theo Smith of Pensacola, FL; eight grandchildren, Eustacia Smith (Emmaia Gelman), Lauren Hodge, Michelle Grace, Correll McAlister, Tori Herbermann, Denise Floyd (Chip), Bethany Ellard-Richmond (Thor), and Katherine Ellard; two honorary grandchildren, Julie Marchbanks and Jason Barwick (Jennifer); 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Lowe’s Funeral Home, 170 Eighth Street, Helena, GA 31037. Services and interment were held Monday, March 7, 2016, at 11 AM with Dr. Jeff Lowe of the First Baptist Church in Riverdale officiating.
Visitation was held Sunday, March 6, from 4-6 PM.
