The Lord, with open arms, welcomed another angel home.
Pat R. Ayers Sr., 85, of Alderson, WV, passed away Sunday, February 28, 2016, at the Peyton Hospice House in Fairlea, WV.
Born July 4, 1930, in Alderson, he was the son of Dana R. and Violet Pence Ayers.
Mr. Ayers was a retired federal lineman electrician. He attended Alderson High School and was a World War II veteran, having served the country in the United States Navy. Mr. Ayers was a member of the Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Alderson and was a member of Tri County Memorial VFW Post 6723, Alderson. He was also a member of the Ronceverte Moose Lodge, the Greenbrier Valley Square Dancing Club, and was a former member of the Alley Cat Bowling League in Lewisburg, WV. Mr. Ayers loved his family, loved to read and watch his favorite TV show, “Days of Our Lives,” and spending time on the old home place. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Bettie Vint Ayers; his son, Pat R. Ayers Jr.; two brothers, Tony Ayers and Bill Ayers; a sister-in-law, Margaret Vint Ayers; and a step-grandson, Tanner Noble.
Those left to cherish and celebrate his life include his wife, Wanda Ward Ayers of Alderson; two sisters, Delores Fentress of Maryland and Rosa “Bootie” Kast and companion, Frank, of Alderson; four brothers, John Ayers and companion, Debbie, of Alderson, Sherman Ayers and wife, Carol, of Alderson, Gary Ayers and wife, Linda, of Pulaski, VA, and Steve Ayers and wife, Jennifer, of Meadow Bridge, WV; a stepson, Kevin S. Richmond of Talcott, WV; a stepdaughter, Priscilla L. Noble and husband, Pat, of Hinton, WV; two step-grandsons, Riley Noble of Hinton and Cody Richmond of Tug Creek, WV; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, March 6, 2016, at 2 PM at the Lobban Funeral Home Chapel in Alderson with the Rev. Richard Lohmeyer officiating. Burial will follow at the Fetcher Addition of the Alderson Cemetery in Alderson, where military honors will be conducted by the West Virginia Honor Guard.
Friends may call Sunday, March 6, from 12-2 PM at the funeral home in Alderson.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family of Mr. Ayers would like to extend a special thank you to all of the nurses and doctors at the Peyton Hospice House for the wonderful care that Mr. Ayers received.
