William Carl “Bill” Sibold, 88, of Union,WV, passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at the Peyton Hospice House in Fairlea, WV, following a long illness.
Born August 3, 1926, at Springton, WV, he was a son of the late George Carl and Mary Sue Peck Sibold.
Bill was a 1944 graduate of Union High School and a 1948 graduate of National Business College in Roanoke, VA. Bill had also attended WV Tech. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II. Bill was a farmer for 56 years, an accountant, service station owner, a fire warden, and served on the Monroe County Commission for 18 years. He was very active in and around the community, where he was a 50-year member of the Monroe Lodge #77 A.F.&A.M. in Union, a member of the Beni Kedem Shrine Temple A.A.O.N.M.S., Monroe and Greenbrier Shrine Clubs, the Gap Mills Ruritan Club, the Monroe County Farm Bureau, and the Union Presbyterian Church. Bill truly loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed watching football and baseball and grouse hunting with his bird dogs.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Clara Lee McNeil Sibold; and a brother, Jack P. Sibold.
Survivors include one son, Gregory Sibold and wife, Penny, of Union; grandchildren, William Michael Sibold and wife, Nancy, of Union and Mary Anne Sibold of Union; and great-grandchildren, Natalee Paige Sibold and William Tucker Sibold.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Friday, January 23, 2015, at the Groves Funeral Home Chapel in Union with the Rev. Nancy Bulla officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery at Keenan, WV, where the WV Honor Guard will conduct military graveside rites and also where the Monroe Lodge #77 A.F.&A.M. will conduct Masonic graveside rites.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Robert E. Miller, C.C. Parker, Bob Wickline, Lee McClung, Todd Belcher, and Charlie Long.
